Popular types of engagement ring settings and styles
Like we discussed in
the earlier blog “How to choose an Engagement Ring”, there are various
types pf settings you can have in an engagement ring. For example: Cluster, Bezel, Gypsy, Halo,
Pave, Tension, etc.
Let’s get into the
depth of this!
Cluster:
Here, you will find
tiny or small diamonds set close together to form or make an illusion of a
bigger diamond. This setting is generally found in geometrical shapes. This
will represent a retro feel.
Pros-
·
As
discussed, the ring speaks RETRO!!
·
It makes a
cluster (quite literally) of smaller diamonds making it look like you got a
rock for yourself
·
It is
comparatively cheaper than actually buying a rock
·
It
complements smaller fingers
Cons-
·
It
required an enormous amount of time to maintain and clean due to tiny gaps
between the smaller stones
·
If not
maintained in a correct way, the stones tend to fall out
Bezel:
A bezel setting is
where you will find your diamonds inscribed in the rim of the metal. It makes a
beautiful ring as it appears to be aesthetically pleasing and hey, more
diamonds!!
Pros-
·
Since the
diamonds are inscribed in the rim, the diamonds are more secure
·
It offers
a modern, stylish and a royal look to your hand
·
It can be
used for daily wear
·
It has
less maintenance
·
It hides
any kinds of flaws in the diamond due to its unique setting
Cons-
·
It hides
the diamond more than it should due to its unique setting pattern
Gypsy
The stone if flushed
into the metal and then the metal is hammered around the stone.
Pros-
·
It
protects the stone
·
The ring
surface is smooth and not edgy
Cons-
·
Due to the
exclusive features of the ring, it is quite expensive
·
It is not
recommended for delicate stones.
Halo
These rings generally
have a huge center stone encircles with smaller stones in pave style.
Pros-
·
Makes the
ring look bigger
·
Gives an
antique look.
·
It can
have a single or multiple halo lines
·
The ring
looks attractive and shiny due to multiple stones
Cons-
·
The focal
point of the center stone drifts away
·
If the
halo is made with different kinds of stone, it would look like a disco party
ball
Pave
Derived from a French
word, it is a composition of rows of tiny stones enclosed in the rim of the
metal. It makes the metal unnoticeable.
Pros:
·
It looks
extremely rich and shiny
·
Makes the
diamonds look bigger than they generally are
Cons:
·
It cannot
work with delicate stones or gems
Tension
In this style of
rings, a single stone is compressed between the metal which holds the stone
tightly. Delicate gems or stones cannot be used in this setting.
Pros:
·
The fall
of natural light on the stone gives life to the ring
Cons:
·
This setting
can only be custom made. One cannot readily find this
·
Only
Diamonds, Sapphires and Rubies can stand this setting
